Whether you have heard of socio-aesthetics before or not, this article will be very informative. What is it all about? Why should you care? We delve into these questions deeper.

What is socio-aesthetics?

What role should the beautician have when facing a client with cancer?

What treatments can be offered to improve the wellbeing of the clients?

What is socio-aesthetics?

The beautician already knows the basics of how to transform traditional aesthetic treatment into a tool to help psychologically and/or physically vulnerable clients.

It is not so much the result of the treatment that is of interest, but the way in which it is used to provide well-being, to accompany women towards a restoration of self-esteem and confidence. Socio-aesthetics allows women (and men too) to feel better again, helping them accept their new bodies.

What role should the beautician have when facing a client with cancer?

Her role is particularly based on two things: care and advice.

As a beautician, you offer wellness treatments, according to the patient’s needs: facial care, hand care, leg care, or even a back massage. But where you make a difference is in the support and advice.

Indeed, you provide very specific advice related to the patient’ pathology and the treatments they are undergoing. It is necessary to take into account the toxicity of the products, to know each composition in order to establish a beauty and wellness routine adapted to your client and based on their treatments.

The role of listening is almost more important with women with cancer than with a more traditional clientele, and that is understandable! They are weakened, and need to feel confident, regain a positive self-image, rediscover sensory experiences, and reconnect with their bodies through wellness treatments. Through attentive listening, the beautician supports and provides comfort. She is a true promoter of their well-being.

Being a beautician allows you to develop your sense of interpersonal relationships; you are always interacting with your clients. But as a socio-aesthetician, you add an even stronger dimension with women affected by cancer, you help them through an extremely difficult phase, and that adds a strong meaning to the profession.

To fully succeed in the role of listening, it is necessary to have a lot of empathy, especially when dealing with women. You must remain benevolent and above all not look at them as patients!

What treatments can be offered to improve the well-being of the clients?.

Hydrating treatments in oncology are essential because the skin is damaged by treatments, it becomes dull. You can start with a cleansing, then a facial massage, neck, shoulders, and trapezius muscles to further relax and deepen the well-being experience. Then apply a mask, and during the application, do not hesitate to massage the hands, this helps maintain contact with the patient.

After the treatment, you can continue with a makeover: natural and light makeup to enhance the complexion. You can also work on the eyebrows, especially if the patient is undergoing hair loss treatment.

Socio-aesthetics brings a new dimension to the practice of aesthetics. When faced with a client with breast cancer, or any other condition, you must demonstrate even more professionalism and empathy.
